The Dynamo Room stands as a testament to ambition and artistry, transforming a prestigious Penn District address into an 8,000-square-foot culinary destination that seats over 270 guests. The latest from Sunday Hospitality Group and Evidence Of Things, this isn’t just another steakhouse—it’s a three-year labor of love that weaves together New York’s industrial heritage, space-age optimism, and contemporary elegance into one unforgettable experience.

The Dynamo Room encompasses one main bar, the secondary oyster bar, two raised dining rooms, a large terrace overlooking pedestrianized 33rd Street, a private dining room, and a secondary entry connecting to Madison Square Garden’s main entrance—making it both a neighborhood destination and a convenient pre-event or pre-commute dining option in one of the world’s busiest transportation hubs.

The restaurant’s crown jewel is its capsule-shaped bar, visible from the street and designed as an inviting beacon of energy. The bar features a bronze accordion skirt, hand-tucked fabric lamps, metal and leather stools and a marble countertop embedded with large galaxy-like chunks of colored stone, offering both visual drama and tactile richness. Above it all hovers an ephemeral sculptural installation of Fresnel lenses by Parisian artist Vincent Leroy that rotates at barely perceptible speed, for a glittering contradiction of  softness and technology.

The name Dynamo Room references the historical power stations that supplied the NYC with electricity—a driving force behind the city’s industrial growth—evoking energy, vibrancy, innovation, and community. The restaurant’s design reflects pivotal moments in the city’s evolution, where themes of engineering marvels, transportation breakthroughs, and architectural preservation converge in a layered narrative. Through a retro-futuristic lens, The Dynamo Room captures the evolving spirit of The Penn District, honoring both the grandeur of the original 1910 Penn Station and the forward-thinking energy that has come to define NYC.

Chefs Jaime Young, Paul Punch, and Derek Bocagno have carried forward the theme of fine dining development at the turn of the century, meticulously resurfacing classic New York steakhouse traditions with contemporary refinement. The culinary presentation embraces the restaurant’s design philosophy through carefully selected plateware, elegant coupes, and refined trolley carts—all incorporating stainless steel elements and craftsmanship that seamlessly resonate with the space’s industrial-meets-luxurious aesthetic.

The design was conceived as a conversation with history—a play between Gilded Age grandeur, Space Race imagery, and contemporary views on nostalgia. Like traveling back in time to tinker with dreams of the future, The Dynamo Room offers diners a chance to experience what happens when vision, craftsmanship, and culinary excellence converge in the heart of Manhattan.

The cocktail program by Brian Evans extends the restaurant’s conceptual narrative into every sip. Signature cocktails are served in orbit-shaped martini glasses, while whimsical names like “Galaxy Surf Club” invite guests to embark on their own cosmic journey.
